We have all had the problem of a small space with lots of furniture or large furniture or both. In a perfect world we would remove some of the furniture or bring in smaller pieces. Ah but the world is an imperfect place and we are a solution based group of stagers.
Here is a problem I had some time ago. This master bedroom was small, had large furniture and the pathway to the right of the bed led to the master bath. The bed and window coverings were large as well. If we moved the bed to the left to make room to access the master bath and actually open the drawers in the dresser, the focal point was off center and actually drew attention to the fact that we had to move the bed over.
What we did: we removed the valances on the windows to bring the eye down to the bed, we slid the bed to the left and actually moved the window coverings as far to the left as we could and still cover the window frame on the right. We then adjusted the center drapery panels to make them look like they were centered and centered the bed using the darker panels as our center. If you look closely you can see that the draperies on the right are right at the window frame and on the left they are beyond the frame however, the draperies still look centered. We then moved the night stand to be flush with the wall. Was this perfect? No it was not, but we did the best we could and improved the perception of the space.
