Is Leaving the Knife Block On the Counter Ok?

When selling a home, is leaving the knife block on the kitchen counter ok? Is it extra clutter? Is it unsafe?

In my opinion, keep it out of site for safety reasons.  I tell my customers that one small appliance on the counter is enough.  The less you have out, the better.  When in doubt, keep it out which means remove it.  Even when staging, I don't overdo it on the accessories in the kitchen.  I strive for a nice clean, uncluttered look and use greenery and light accessorizing for color enhancement.

Nope...hide it away! It is NOT an attractive accessory and (urban legend or not) there is a safety concern. When I stage a kitchen, the only "appliance" I leave out is the coffee maker and I create a coffee "station" including some matching mugs, attractive creamer & sugar and maybe a small basket with coffee condiments. I try to group them together on a tray that can be easily removed when cleaning the counters.

While we are talking about counter clutter...don't forget to organize and simplify the cabinet clutter as well. I tell my clients to remove everything they will not be needing for one month. Because, hopefully, the home will be sold by the!.  Don't need to cram the cabinets with tons of tupperware, mugs, glasses, etc. Keep them looking spacious and clean. Ditto for the pantry!  The most important thing is to make the kitchen look sparkling clean with ample storage...even if the kitchen is small. Perception is often reality!!!!

I always tell my clients to put all knives out of reach (especially of children).  And, if I stage a meal vignette, I use dinnerware but no silver ware.  And if someone in the house sews, I suggest putting scissors out of sight/reach.  In the same vein, I suggest putting cleaning fluids and wipes out of reach.

Basically, during a showing or an Open House children may go exploring.  Try to prevent danger to them.  And, sadly, knives and silver ware have been picked up an used as weapons.  So, yes, I consider leaving sharp things out an unwarented danger.

I agree no knives!  They can be dangerous and only clutter up the kitchen.  Less is more!

This is one of those universal staging DON'T's.

No knife blocks, no knife racks,  no knives period.

No knifes. I also suggest no more than 1-2 kitchen appliances out on the counter - depending on the size of your kitchen. You want to show the maximum space of your counter tops.

No. Definitely remove it for aesthetic and safety reasons. Although one appliance is acceptable, I prefer not to have anything on the counters that isn't decorative and functional. Less clutter, especially in smaller kitchens will leave buyers remembering how spacious it was.

I agree. Its not the best on the eyes. Especially if your kitchen is smaller!
