Is Basketball Goal A Turnoff To Home Buyer?

Is a basketball goal in the driveway a turnoff?  Our home is in an older neighborhood where homes range in price from $200,000 - $750,000.

Judging by the trees, it looks like your home is in an older neighborhood.  If the neighborhood is filled with high end older homes and this is uncharacteristic of the neighborhood I would say "get rid of it."  If your neighborhood is filled with similar homes where basketball goals are common and you think a large percentage of your buyers have teen age kids that will find this appealing, then you might keep it.  Just make sure it looks new.  To be safe, however, I'd get rid of it.  I doubt it will be the selling point of a home.  It could be a turn off, however; especially since it is in the front.  And if someone really wants a goal they can spend the $100 - $300 to put one in.

Who is buying into the neighborhood and which price point will your home be falling into (you don't have to answer here just ask yourself)? If it's families with young or teeange kids this will be fine. I can't tell the condition of it from the photo but if it needs painting and a new net you could purchase that. In my professional opinion however, this is not a big issue to address. Curb appeal including landscaping, drive up appeal, does the house need TLC or paint? Those are bigger areas to focus on.

I wouldn't worry too much about your basketball hoop. Ultimately, most buyers will not make a decision based upon this. However, if it is an eye soar and could use a new net and some paint it may be worth cleaning it up. You want your entire property to appear well maintained.

The exterior of the home is extremely important.

If there are other nets in the neighborhood I would take it down.  A buyer can assume that he can put one up if he needs it.

From what i can see in this photo the whole landscaping and driveway needs attention

I absolutely *HATE* a basketball goal mounted on the house above the garage door. No other single thing makes a house uglier.

But a pole in the yard like you show in the picture is so easy to remove, that it doesn't bother me at all. Not only is it easy to remove, but the ground beneath it will completely heal on its own, s no harm, no foul (pardon the pun).

If you have a basketball goal mounted to the house, then I'd heartily suggest you remove it and patch and paint the holes before showing, but I wouldn't worry too much about a pole in the yard.
