Is Carpet or Vinyl Tiles Better in Bathroom?

I’m trying to save costs on getting my home ready for sale. Right now there is carpet in the bathrooms, would it be better to keep it there or replace it with vinyl tiles?

    Hi,

Vinyl tiles all the way. They look incredible nowadays, and come in a variety of price-ranges..

I have used both the high end tiles at $4.50 a square foot with extremely authentic grout lines and the 99 cent ones at Lowes. I daresay the cheaper ones actually pleased me better aethetically.

I've even installed the vinyl wood in bathrooms, and they look better and more authentic than the actual hardwood in the adjacent hall! It's my big-bang/little buck tip for a bathroom.

Easy to inslall and keep clean, super-affordable, and just gorgeous to look at and step on.. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to any home under about $300,000. They are just a pleasure to behold, and perfect for a bathroom.

Hi - I agree with Michelle - vinyl tile over carpet anytime.  Carpet in the bathroom does not appeal to majority of buyers.

Vinyl tiles, every time. Carpet absorbs odor and produces mold when it gets wet. It also makes a bathroom feel smaller. The big factor however is that carpeting bathrooms is just no longer in style!

Definitely get rid of the carpet. It scares buyers to think what could be lurking in there! Vinyl will be a much cleaner and updated look.

I have to agree take the carpet out, buyers think "mildew" or "mold", wood-look vinyl is all the rage right now, inexpensive but not cheap looking and very classy in addition to no mess!

...and sheet vinyl may be another choice, easy to instal and eliminates seams in most instances which is advanatgeous in a potentially wet environment.

EEEWWWWHHH!  I agree with everyone!  Loose the carpeting! Clean, fresh vinyl is definitely a better solution. Just keep it neutral in color and chose some that look like tile or wood. If you use the peel and stick type, the new owners can easily change it out to tile, if they wish.

Re: Is Carpet or Vinyl Tiles Better in Bathroom?

Looks like we are all on the same page with our vinyl recommendation.  Vinyl is a much better choice for bathrooms and far more practical since it is easy to clean and does not absorb moisture.  It will also give you a cleaner, more updated look for your bathroom and will appeal to more buyers.  When is the last time you have seen carpet in a bathroom in any of the design or decorating magazines out there or online?   It is important to control the mositure in a bathroom and having carpet is out of date and neither functional or practical since it holds moisture and can be a cause of mildew once it gets wet.   There may be other areas where yu can save costs, but this is where you would spend the money.   Best of luck and post a photo of the new look when you're done, I'd love to see it.     Sue Geurs, The Property Promoters

Vinyl - definitly. Think about praticality - what happens when you step all wet out of the bath tub or shower - your carpet will be all wet - can attract mold and milldew. Vinyl can be wiped off.
