Is it worth replacing these cheap bathroom faucets, and shower heads?

Is it worth replacing these cheap bathroom faucets?  We have 4 bathroom sinks with cheap faucets that the builder put in.  Is it worth replacing them before we list the house?  If so, what are the best faucets to buy for the money?  We also have the same situation with our shower heads.  Replace those as well?

If those are the fixtures you've depicted and they are in good shape( not pitted or corroded) you are good to go IMHO. Replacing them would help differentiate your home but I'm not sure it will add any discernable value.

Best of luck with your sale

I believe replacing with an updated version is always worth it.  And of course being different from the competition is too.  Many sellers don't think to change whats already in "good enough" shape but when potential buyers walk through so many homes in a day...one thing they'll remember is the new faucets!

As a home inspector, I don't see any value in replacing fixtures that are in good working order. As long as they are not leaking, and the stoppers are functioning properly, they won't be an issue during a buyer or seller home inspection. The new buyer may want to make these updates and selection the fixtures themselves.

As a home stager, it's really important that your home doesn't look dated. You don't have to buy expensive fixtures, just current-looking styles. Stay away from brass whenever possible. Your existing fixture looks like chrome, so that would be a good choice. Also check knobs and pulls. Those can be switched out easily for a minimal investment.

Ultimately, your home will look updated, well-maintained and more appealing to today's buyers.

If your budget will allow, replace them.  Don't get fancy - find something current that will fit your existing plumbing.  And, although they don't show in the photos, it is likely the presentation and desirability of the bathrooms will be much improved if you also replace handles and drawer pulls (again, select colors that are current and match the new faucet, and shapes that will screw into the existing holes).   In fact, if there is a shower curtain, consider buying a rod and hangers that match the color or the faucet and handles.  Subtle consistency and current colors will help sell your house.

Changing your faucets will give your bathrooms and kitchen a more updated look. Spending little money and getting new style faucets make your home more noticeable to possible home buyers. It will look well maintained on the pictures that your Realtor may upload on Mutiple listing service, MLS.

Replacing your faucets and shower heads would be a nice improvement if your budget can accommodate changing 4 of them.  Perhaps you should change at least the master bath and the powder room used by guests if price is a concern.  Buyers seem to focus on kitchens and bathrooms when looking at homes.  They want their bathrooms to have that 'spa" look.  If you are considering changing the fixtures, check out  www.everyfaucet.com  for a good selection and reasonable pricing - no shipping on most items. Of course, for faster service,Lowe's and Home Depot always work.  Otherwise, shine those faucets up using good old-fashioned baby oil and place some attractive accessories like diffusers or glass jars filled with greenery, stones, or shells on the counters to draw attention away from the faucets. Give your tub a spa look by placing a basket of towels either on the tub or floor and add either a plant or candles in the corner of the tub.  Good luck with the sale of your home.

I agree with the others on the replacement of the fixtures. There are very attractive ones available at the SuperStores as mentioned. If the shower heads are not corroded, you may be able to bypass their replacement, however. But the faucets and  drawer hardware can make all the difference in presentation and giving it that updated look! If your cabinets are old, scratched or dated looking also...a quick coat or two of paint will also refresh their look as well. Invest in some new, fresh white towels (that nobody in the family uses) to put out when you are showing your home as well.

ABSOLUTELY! This is a relatively inexpensive quick way to update your bathroom.  And if your vanity is sporting the classic builder grade Hollywood light strips, replace that while you are at it, but make sure the finishes match. Remember just because certain aspects of your home may be in decent shape and working order, doesn't mean they are good enough. Take the time, make the changes and GET IT SOLD!

Maybe . . . without a photo of the entire room it really is difficult to say.  Is the light fixture updated?  Is the price of the home already really low?  If it is a low end home and other items are not being updated, I wouldn't advise a change.  People do notice light fixtures and faucets as an indication of the home's value and style.

If you can DIY, it is an affordable upgrade.      One of these options would provide a more contemporary look.  I agree with the other comments about changing the light bar and fixture in at least the powder and master areas.  Taking a good look at the entire room should tell you if it is an improvement that is worthwhile.

When considering whether or not to replace the faucets consider the entire bathroom as well.   It looks as if the mirror could use some updating.  Read the energized seller piece on mirror mate for ideas here.  Make sure the cabinets look new either with stain or paint.  Fresh towels and a few natural accessories such as stones, flowers, or seashells offer a spa feel to your bathroom.  Of course, these changes should be consistent throughout the making your entire home more appealing to savvy buyers.

    Good Luck!

Diane makes a great point. If the whole bathroom needs updating, well you could be opening Pandora's box by changing out only the faucets. Do the sink and tub need refinishing? Is the tile work current and in good shape? You see where I'm going here. If you need a bathroom rehab, well faucets alone won't cut it.

Home purchases are deeply emotional and buyers generally make a decision within the first few seconds after they've entered a home. By the time they get to the bathroom they've generally decided if they are serious. Faucets are not deal killers.

That said, if you have a healthy budget and are sure a few quick fixes like new faucets and mirrors will do the trick then go for it. Bathrooms will definitely enhance a sale. People remember bad bathrooms!
