You’ve heard it before: Kitchens sell houses. In fact, many buyers are willing to pay top dollar for a spectacular kitchen. In this room, buyers generally expect updates, newer appliances, ample counter space and an impeccably clean look where floors, grout, walls, cabinetry, appliances and counters are concerned. They want to envision themselves cooking family meals, hosting gatherings of friends and enjoying the kitchen. Dirty dishes, last night’s dinner wafting from the garbage and Fido’s food bowl do not appear in this vision. One of the cheapest and simplest things you can do to improve your home’s appeal is to keep your kitchen spotless.

You may well question whether updating your kitchen is worth your time and energy or would offer a good return on your investment. The answer may be no. Unless your home is in an area where major updating is expected and you expect to receive top dollar for your home, you may want to consider more cost-effective ways to showcase your kitchen without spending tens of thousands of dollars. A few hundred or even a couple thousand dollars for effective updates may be money very well spent.
